Within a thirty mile radius there are a multitude of things to do and see. Places to visit include, forest trails, waterfalls, beaches and the local market towns of Harlech, Barmouth, Porthmadog, Machynlleth and Caernarfon. There are several narrow gauge steam railways in the area including the famous Ffestiniog, Tal-y-Llyn and Snowdon Mountain Railway. Furthermore, the Centre for Alternative Technology, Europe’s largest eco-centre – and the internationally famous Portmeirion Italian style village are unique to the area. Llandanwg, Harlech and Shell Island Beaches are all within three miles and historic medieval castles at Harlech, Criccieth and Caernarfon are great to explore. Ideal visits for schools can also include Snowdonia’s nuclear, pumped storage and hydro-electric power stations, underground tours at the Llanfair or Blaenau Ffestiniog slate mines and the Greenwood Centre - a beautiful twenty acre site and visitor centre devoted to the amazing world of trees.
